Selena Gomez As Woman Of The Year At Latin Music Awards
Selena Gomez will receive one of the highest honors in Latin music culture. Billboard and Telemundo have announced that the global superstar will be honored with the 2025 Woman of the Year award at the third annual Billboard Latin Women in Music ceremony, which will air on April 24 on Telemundo.
The two-hour special will be featured live from Miami. The exclusive will also be streamed across Universo, Peacock, and the Telemundo app. The Woman of the Year award celebrates female artists whose influence extends far beyond the charts. It recognizes their artistic accomplishments, cultural impact, and leadership within the music industry and society. Past recipients include notable singers such as Shakira and Karol G, underscoring the significance of the accolade.
With a career that continues to evolve across genres, Selena Gomez, 32, stands as one of the most fruitful artists in pop music. The Texas-born artist of Mexican descent boasts 42 entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Also, her chart-topping 2019 ballad, “Lose You to Love Me.”
Selena Gomez and Achievements in Latin Music
Her crossover appeal into Latin music was cemented with her featured appearance on DJ Snake’s 2018 global smash “Taki Taki” alongside Ozuna and Cardi B. This track debuted at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart and held the top spot for 13 consecutive weeks.
Gomez further strengthened her connection to Latin audiences with the release of Revelación in 2021—her first Spanish-language EP. The project debuted at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums. Thus becoming the first by a female artist to do so since Shakira’s El Dorado. The critically acclaimed work also earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.

Also, her more recent work continues that momentum. In early 2025, Gomez scored another top-five hit on Hot Latin Songs with “Ojos Tristes,” a moody reinterpretation of Jeanette’s 1980s classic “El Muchacho de los Ojos Tristes.” The track, featuring Benny Blanco and The Marías, is part of the collaborative album I Said I Love You First—a project that merges vintage Latin pop nostalgia with modern sonic textures.
Beyond the studio, Selena Gomez has cultivated a multi-dimensional career as an actress, executive producer, and entrepreneur. Additionally, her mental health activism and outspoken support for marginalized communities have further distinguished her as a powerful voice. In 2017, she was Billboard’s Woman of the Year. Thus, this year’s achievement is no surprise.
Gomez joins a roster of trailblazing honorees at this year’s Latin Women in Music celebration, including Anitta, Belinda, Celia Cruz, Chiquis, etc.
The 2025 Billboard Latin Women in Music event promises to be a landmark moment, celebrating female excellence in Latin music and honoring the rich cultural contributions that continue to shape the global soundscape.
The special airs live on April 24 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT exclusively on Telemundo.
