Lizzo Posts Cryptic Message on Social Media Amidst Legal Troubles

Lizzo, the Grammy-winning artist known for her message of self-love and body positivity, has sparked confusion with a recent Instagram post. In the message, Lizzo vents her frustration over online criticism and ongoing legal troubles, concluding with the statement: “I quit.”

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” Lizzo wrote. She expressed a desire to focus on music and positivity, but stated feeling ostracized: “But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Lizzo went on to detail the toll of online negativity, including “lies being told about me for clout & views” and constant scrutiny over her appearance. She concluded, “I didn’t sign up for this s**t. I quit.”

The vague message comes after Lizzo previously admitted contemplating leaving music last year due to body-shaming. It remains unclear whether Lizzo is taking a break from social media, her career, or both. Her representatives have not yet responded to requests for clarification.

Lizzo’s rise to fame came with her critically acclaimed 2019 album Cuz I Love You, featuring hit singles like “Juice,” “Tempo,” and the Grammy-winning “Truth Hurts.” Her 2022 follow-up, Special, also garnered critical acclaim and a Grammy for Record of the Year.

However, recent months have seen Lizzo embroiled in legal controversy. Three former backup dancers filed a lawsuit against Lizzo, her production company, and her dance captain, alleging sexual harassment, weight-shaming, racial discrimination, and a hostile work environment.

Lizzo responded to the accusations, denying wrongdoing and emphasizing her commitment to empowering women. She stated, “There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it feels like to be body-shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.” The dancers responded by calling Lizzo’s statement “disheartening.”

Despite accepting a humanitarian award last year with her current dancers in support, Lizzo’s legal battle continues. A recent court decision rejected her request to dismiss the lawsuit entirely, although some claims have been dropped. Lizzo has recently performed at the Grammy Awards, but no new music announcements have been made.
