Wicked: For Good Has A New First Trailer
The second part of Elphaba’s city is here. This time, the stakes are higher, the emotions deeper, and the magic more powerful than ever.
Universal Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for Wicked: For Good. The highly anticipated second chapter in its epic two-part adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. Reuniting audiences with the magical world of Oz, For Good follows last year’s cinematic phenomenon, Wicked. Notably, it soared to become the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time.
Thus, Cynthia Erivo returns as fierce and misunderstood Elphaba, and Ariana Grande as the effervescent Glinda. The cast also features Jonathan Bailey reprising his role as the charming Fiyero. Also among the cast is Michelle Yeoh as the formidable Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the enigmatic Wizard of Oz. Also, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Bowen Yang as the delightfully sharp-tongued Pfannee.
Hence, directed by Jon M. Chu and penned by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, Wicked: For Good picks up where its predecessor left off. It dives into the musical’s second act. According to the film’s official synopsis, this installment unfolds before and after Dorothy Gale’s legendary arrival. So, the second part traces the powerful evolution of Elphaba and Glinda’s complex friendship. As the two women embrace their destinies — one as the so-called Wicked Witch of the West, the other as Glinda the Good. Thus, fans will see the repercussions of their choices ripple across the land, reshaping Oz forever.
Wicked: For Good and Expectations
The stakes are set high following Wicked’s impressive box office debut in 2024, which raked in $756 million globally. Also, it garnered ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande earned nods for their leading and supporting performances, respectively. Meanwhile, the film won the Oscars for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Costume designer Paul Tazewell made history as the first Black man to win in his category.
As the trailer teases soaring vocals, lush visuals, and moments of heartbreak and hope, Wicked: For Good is shaping up to be a cinematic crescendo worthy of its Broadway roots.
