Vanessa Hudgens Describes Winning The Masked Singer as ‘Quite the Ride’
Vanessa Hudgens is reflecting on her victory on The Masked Singer. After winning the Fox singing competition on Wednesday, May 22, as Goldfish, the 35-year-old actress shared how her costume allowed her to perform with newfound freedom.
“It was definitely quite the ride,” Hudgens, who is expecting her first child with husband Cole Tucker, told Entertainment Tonight. “An experience I did not anticipate would impact me so profoundly.”
The High School Musical alum expressed that she felt empowered by being able to truly be herself on stage after a long time.
“I’ve been in the public eye for many years, and there’s always a preconceived notion when you see yourself on stage,” she said. Hudgens added, “Being completely covered up and able to perform as myself gave me a sense of freedom I hadn’t experienced in a while. It was incredibly empowering.”
Hudgens also mentioned that she joined the show after fans encouraged her to sing more. “It came at the perfect time,” she explained. “We were on strike, and I was looking for my next step, and this was the perfect opportunity.”
Hudgens final performance as Goldfish featured Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” while runner-up Gumball (Scott Porter from Ginny & Georgia) sang Styx’s “Renegade.”
The season 11 finale concluded after the pair had survived 14 unmaskings throughout the competition. During her time as Goldfish, Hudgens shared her excitement about her future child seeing her performances.
“I can’t wait to have a kid so I can say, ‘Look at mommy go,’ ” she said.
Hudgens announced her pregnancy with her baseball player husband, 27, by debuting her baby bump on the 2024 Oscars red carpet in March.
