Usher Obtains Marriage License in Las Vegas Amidst Super Bowl Preparations

Usher and his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea, made headlines as they acquired a marriage license in Las Vegas just days before the singer’s highly anticipated 2024 Super Bowl halftime performance.

Court records revealed that the eight-time Grammy Award-winner and Goicoechea obtained the license on Thursday in Clark County, Nevada, home to Las Vegas. Although the duo grabbed attention with their move towards marital bliss, Usher discreetly kept his left hand covered with a glove during his electrifying halftime show, where he shared the stage with special guest artists Alicia Keys, H.E.R., will.i.am, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, and Ludacris. Despite the buzz surrounding their union, as of Sunday night, no marriage certificate had been filed with the court.

The timing of Usher and Goicoechea’s license coincided with the release of the R&B/pop star’s 9th studio album, Coming Home. In an interview with EW, Usher expressed that the album encapsulates his journey from marriage to singlehood, signifying a personal and vulnerable return to his roots. Reflecting on this transition, he remarked, “The idea of that journey felt like me finally coming back home to this place that I’m very comfortable to just share and know I’m being vulnerable in. I’m ready.”

Speculation about Usher’s relationship with Goicoechea, a music executive, began circulating in 2019. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Sovereign Bo, in 2020, followed by son Sire Castrello in 2021. Usher also has two children, 15-year-old Usher Raymond V and 14-year-old Naviyd Eli, from his previous marriage to Tameka Foster, which ended in divorce in 2009. His second marriage to Grace Miguel concluded in 2018 after three years.

Las Vegas holds significant milestones for Usher, serving as the backdrop for his recent achievements. Apart from his Super Bowl halftime performance and impending nuptials, the singer concluded his My Way Las Vegas residency in December, marking yet another chapter in his illustrious career.
