Surprise! Usher Reveals Family’s Shock at Vegas Wedding After Super Bowl

Usher‘s surprise wasn’t just for fans – it was for his family too! The singer recently revealed that his Las Vegas wedding to Jennifer Goicoechea in February caught everyone off guard, including their closest relatives.

Just hours after headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Usher and Goicoechea tied the knot in a classic Vegas ceremony, complete with an Elvis officiant. Attending the 2024 NAACP Image Awards where he won Entertainer of the Year and the President’s Award, Usher shared the story with Entertainment Tonight.

“It was an incredible moment that we felt was great for us,” he said. “It was a button at the end of an incredible Las Vegas run. My mother was there, her mother was there, the kids were there, our immediate family was there. Matter of fact, everybody was surprised. I’m like, ‘No, no, no, we’re having a wedding right now.’ They’re like, ‘What?’ I’m like ‘Yeah, we’re gonna go have Elvis officiate us.’ It was great.”

While a more elaborate wedding is still in the works, Usher explained that the impromptu ceremony felt like the perfect way to cap off their time in Vegas. This followed the conclusion of his My Way residency, which kicked off in July 2022.

The surprise wedding wasn’t entirely unexpected for fans who were following Usher’s journey. He and Goicoechea have been together since 2019 and share two children, along with Usher’s sons from his previous marriage to Tameka Foster. In a pre-Super Bowl interview with PEOPLE, Usher hinted at their upcoming nuptials.

“Listen, when you find someone that you know is a great partner, of course it is an honor and a pleasure to be able to share life with someone who wants to share it with you and loves you, who you are,” he told the outlet. “We’ve obviously made a commitment to life for life together because of our children. It wouldn’t be odd for us to get married.”

He added, “We have an amazing dynamic between our relationship where I’m able to be passionate still about what I do and have an incredible partner to work through some of the harder times as a young man dealing with children and dealing with the dynamic of how you communicate with them.”

With a surprise Vegas wedding and a future grand celebration on the horizon, Usher and Goicoechea are embarking on a new chapter together.
