Sabrina Carpenter Brings Her New Release “Manchild”
Sabrina Carpenter is back with a vengeance — and a very catchy new anthem. The 25-year-old pop sensation has officially unveiled “Manchild,” a sharp, tongue-in-cheek single. A true soundtrack of modern dating with her signature blend of wit and pop polish.
Released on Thursday, June 5, “Manchild” is Carpenter’s first new music since the deluxe edition of her Short n’ Sweet album. Less than 24 hours later, she dropped the song’s equally hilarious and cinematic music video. It is a wild, Western-inspired ride that feels ripped straight from a fever dream.
Directed by Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia, the visual sees Sabrina Carpenter embarking on an absurd trek across the American West. It sees her accepting rides from a lineup of wildly impractical men. From jet skis speeding down desert highways to shopping carts hitched to motorcycles. What’s more, it even has motorized recliners; her suitors are more committed to style than substance, which is the point. With a perfectly placed eye-roll, Carpenter belts out, “Stupid, or is it slow? Maybe it’s useless. But there’s a cuter word for it, I know. Manchild,”

The Girl Meets World alum was quick to celebrate the video’s surreal flair by posting on Instagram. “It’s exactly what i pictured in my head. no animals were harmed in the making but some men were.”
“Manchild” was born shortly after Carpenter wrapped Short n’ Sweet. Reflecting on the spontaneous writing session, she described it as “the best random Tuesday of my life.” She added that the song has since become a nostalgic soundtrack for “the very confusing and fun young adult years of life.”
Though Sabrina Carpenter is enjoying a brief hiatus from her Short n’ Sweet Tour, she’s far from idle. So, the tour launched in North America last September before heading across Europe this spring. It will pick back up with a highly anticipated two-night stand at London’s Hyde Park. Thus, it was followed by additional dates throughout the U.S. and Canada.
“Manchild” not only offers a clever critique of the pitfalls of modern romance but also further cements Carpenter’s evolution from a former
Disney star to fully-formed pop provocateur. With its humor, heartbreak, and a healthy dose of self-awareness, the track continues her streak of razor-sharp, relatable storytelling — and proves that she’s only getting bolder.
