Rihanna Joins A$AP Rocky At Cannes Premiere Of A New Movie
Rihanna turned heads at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend. Riri made a surprise appearance on the red carpet to support her partner A$AP Rocky. The two attended the premiere of Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest.
The couple arrived at the Palais des Festivals amid rain and fanfare. During this red carpet appearance, Rihanna opted for a sky-blue Alaïa gown with Rocky by her side. To set the mood of the night, her 2016 hit “Work” fittingly played in the background.

Thus, A$AP’s film is a bold English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 noir classic High and Low. The premiere received a 5.5-minute standing ovation following its debut. Lee’s modern-day reimagining transplants the story from Tokyo to contemporary New York. Among the cast is Denzel Washington as a troubled music mogul caught in a ransom crisis. Rocky stars as Yung Felon, a hungry, streetwise rapper chasing superstardom at any cost.
Rihanna and Balancing Motherhood with Red Carpets
So, the evening marked more than just a cinematic milestone. Rihanna, who recently revealed her third pregnancy at the Met Gala earlier this month, showed up to Cannes as Rocky’s partner. Also, she was a symbol of their evolving legacy—equal parts family, fashion, and cultural force. The couple is already parents to sons RZA, 3, and Riot, 20 months.
In Variety’s Cannes cover story, Rocky reflected on their dynamic. “We both got movies coming out the same year,” he said, referencing Rihanna’s voice role as Smurfette. Also released is a new track, “Friend of Mine,” as the soundtrack for “Smurfs.” “I didn’t even realize that. Wow! Shout-outs to us—we’ve been working!”
Additionally, Rihanna and her presence at Cannes also come on the heels of a turbulent chapter. Just months ago, she was a steady presence at Rocky’s felony assault trial in Los Angeles. The rapper was charged in connection with a 2021 shooting outside the W Hotel in Hollywood. Following a tense three-week trial, Rocky was acquitted on all counts. The emotional verdict saw him leaping over the courtroom railing to embrace Rihanna, his mother Renee Black, and sister Erika Mayers.
Now, in the south of France, the couple are back in the spotlight—this time under far different circumstances. Still defiant, still glamorous, rewriting the script on what it means to be a music power couple in 2025.
