Halsey Diffuses Noise Complaint by Snapping a Photo with Police: ‘Not My Favorite Moment’
Halsey recently opened up about a past experience involving a noise complaint that led to an unusual interaction with police officers. In an interview with Rolling Stone UK, published on October 16, the 30-year-old pop star reflected on the incident, which occurred a few years ago during a party she was hosting.
At the time, Halsey had been enjoying the night with friends and was swimming in her underwear when police arrived in response to a noise complaint. Rather than facing penalties, the officers offered Halsey a way out—if she agreed to take a photo with them. To avoid further trouble, the singer posed for the photo, soaked and dressed only in a bra, alongside the officers.
While Halsey initially found the situation amusing, she now views it through a different lens. As she’s gotten older, she admits that the photo has become a source of discomfort. Reflecting on it in the interview, Halsey said, “It wasn’t until a couple of years later that I thought, ‘Damn, those cops just have a picture of me half-naked on their phone.’ I’m sure it comes out in bars. Ah, don’t love that.”
This moment, along with others from her past, has prompted Halsey to think more deeply about how intimate moments can end up in the hands of others, whether with consent or not. She elaborated on the idea, saying, “That picture on that phone, that nude on someone’s phone, that Polaroid photo, all those little versions of me in that intimate space, whether consenting or not, are out in the world for whatever purpose. I wish I could call them back. That’s a really lonely feeling.”
Halsey also connected this experience to the broader idea of asking someone to delete private photos, especially in the context of a breakup. She touched on the pressure she felt in the past to be seen as the “Cool Girl,” which made it difficult to reclaim control over her own images. This theme plays a significant role in her upcoming single, “Lonely Is the Muse,” where she explores the idea of pleasing others at the expense of her own boundaries.
“I’ve always wanted to be the Cool Girl. And asking someone to delete all your nudes is not very Cool Girl of you, even in the breakup. I’m different now, but that song is about a decade and a half of that,” Halsey shared.
As the singer looks back on these experiences, she expresses a desire to reclaim the parts of herself that are scattered across different moments. “All those little versions of me that are out on their little side quests, floating around the world—I wish I could bring them back home so that they weren’t out there going through that.”
Halsey’s new album, The Great Impersonator, is set for release on October 25, and it will no doubt reflect these evolving thoughts on identity, privacy, and self-reflection.
