Before returning to the skies as Elphaba in the second installment of Wicked this November, Cynthia Erivo is inviting listeners into a world that is deeply personal and unmistakably hers. The Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award-winning performer has officially announced the release of her sophomore studio album, I Forgive You, arriving June 6 via Verve Records/Republic Records.

The album marks a significant artistic evolution for Cynthia Erivo. It showcases her groundbreaking vocals in every track, her songwriting talent, and by co-writing each of the songs. In partnership with a longtime friend and producer, Will Wells, Erivo has crafted a collection that she describes as “a couple more chapters” in her musical journey.

“Over the last two-plus years, between all the flights, the filming, the interviews, and the awards show, I went to the studio with my dear friend Will and created this project for you and me,” Erivo shared in a statement on Instagram. “This album, this collection of songs, is something I’m so proud to share with you.”

The announcement also came with the reveal of the album’s second single, “Worst of Me,” which dropped at midnight on April 11. A sweeping, orchestral ballad that showcases Erivo’s range and emotions. By exploring the ache of heartbreak and betrayal. “I came here for love, oh, no, I don’t want it anymore,” she laments. “I gave you my home, but you took the worst of me.” The release follows her earlier single, “Replay,” offering another glimpse into the album’s emotional depth.

The New Era For Cynthia Erivo

I Forgive You is a reflective and vulnerable body of work that promises to blend soul, orchestral grandeur, and poetic introspection. It also cements Erivo’s place not just as a performer but as a storyteller whose narratives transcend the screen and the stage.

The album announcement is just one part of what is shaping up to be a landmark year for Erivo. Hot off the success of Wicked: Part One, which became the highest-grossing Broadway film adaptation of all time, Erivo earned a 2025 Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She also took the Oscar stage with co-star Ariana Grande for a powerful performance of “Defying Gravity,” leaving audiences breathless.

Later this year, Erivo will host the 2025 Tony Awards. Also, she stars as Jesus Christ in a special Hollywood Bowl production of Jesus Christ Superstar and headline the post-parade stage at WorldPride in Washington, D.C. All of this happened before she returns to Oz in Wicked: For Good, set to premiere on November 21.
